In today’s Gospel passage, a woman in the crowd praised the Lord Jesus and his Mother Mary, for having brought up the Lord Jesus and for being Mother to the Lord. Jesus affirms that but He also refocuses the attention of the crowd and also His disciples to what truly makes the Blessed Virgin Mary, a key figure of faith and Mother of the Lord Jesus and the Church and also Queen of the Saints and Angels.
Mary said yes to God in obedience and bore Jesus as a Virgin, and Mary’s whole life was in obedience to God and the Word of God; she was there with Jesus and the Apostles and Disciples, every step of the way. That is why our Lord Jesus gave Mary as Mother and Queen of the Church, which means Mother of all Christians, just as Jesus made all Christians the children of the Church and also children of the Father.
The Lord protects the just and the people of Israel, what we understand is that the promise made to the sons of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in the Old Testament have been fulfilled in the age of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church founded by Christ. For all who are baptised in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, are baptised into the life of our Lord Jesus Christ, and into the Catholic Church, and are then initiated into the life of a Christian. In fact, Catholic Christians and the Catholic Church are the new Israel and the new Jerusalem, for we are baptised into the faith of Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostles and also the faith of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Elijah, Elisha, all the Prophets and Patriarchs of the Old Testament, thus we inherit the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ transmitted to us through the Sacraments and the Word of God through the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, who is the Bride, Spouse and Body of our Lord Jesus Christ. With the Lord Jesus as our Shepherd, and the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Angels and Saints, as well as the Dioceses and Parishes and local communities and ministries to aid us on our journey, let us take the bold step of living our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ and children of God the Father, and temples of the Holy Spirit, bringing the light and love of God in Christ to each and every person we meet.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
