Where are we going in Life?

Life is unpredictable, full of uncertainties, twists and setbacks that make us sometimes feel frustrated, sad or just lost. It’s at these times that we start to think about our direction in life and whether we are making the right choices.

Yesterday’s gospel tells us that Jesus is going to prepare a place for us in his Father’s house where we will be with him for all eternity. Also Jesus gives us comfort when he told his disciples “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. ” (John 14:1-2)  At times we feel like we are alone with all of life’s troubles and decisions but Jesus is there for us through our Christian faith.

Knowing Jesus is important and he is present through the teachings of the church and through people whom we encounter everyday. Jesus works through the people around us to create opportunities to help us and to give us a purpose in life. Jesus also reaffirms that he is the way to eternal salvation by saying to us “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). By trusting in Jesus, we are able to pray and not worry so much as he is with us and will help us.

Often, we hear of others helping strangers through friends or miraculous cures from illnesses, and these are not possible without prayer and Jesus working through people as his instruments in finding and giving new direction in life to those who need it. Thus, in our time of need and troubles, we can surrender them to Jesus who is our comforter and shepherd who will find a way for us.

Jesus also promises his disciples that they will do greater works in his name and that we should do the right things and good things that benefit others but also to set an example for others to follow. The church is important in uniting us Christians to pray for each other and help each other through our own means or as a community.

Time and time again, life will be full of obstacles and by trusting in Jesus, we can overcome them but we must be prepared to follow Jesus. Despite being the sinners that we are, Jesus will guide us and continue to help us through his great love for us, his children. Remember that Jesus is the way to God, to finding ourselves, to people and to our eternal home which is heaven.

God Bless!
