24th Sep 2015 think carefully about your behaviour

I shall take pleasure in it and manifest my glory there

Haggai 1:1 – 8 “In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah and to Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest as follows, ‘Yahweh Sabaoth says this, “This people says: The time has not yet come to rebuild the Temple of Yahweh.” ‘(And the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophet Haggai, as follows,) ‘Is this a time for you to live in your panelled houses, when this House lies in ruins? So now, Yahweh Sabaoth says this, “Think carefully about your behaviour. You have sown much and harvested little; you eat but never have enough, drink but never have your fill, put on clothes but feel no warmth. The wage-earner gets his wages only to put them in a bag with a hole in it.” Yahweh Sabaoth says this, “Think carefully about your behaviour. Go up into the hills, fetch timber and rebuild the House; and I shall take pleasure in it and manifest my glory there — Yahweh says.”

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I find myself pondering today why there are times that I do good things, yet find that I do not do it out of love. Lord Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, I find that You are inviting me to reflect on my behaviour, just as You invited the leaders and people of the Jewish nation in the Book of Haggai to reflect on their behaviour. I need to think about my behaviour not based on the actions alone but on the interior movements of the heart and mind and spirit. Lord Jesus, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, I find that it’s a challenge, yet I know You are with me to sustain me in this tough journey of life and Faith.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, help me to constantly be focused on Your law of love and grace, as You tell us in the Book of Psalms through the prayers of the Psalmists,

Psalm 118(119):18 “Open my eyes and I shall fix my gaze on the wonders of your Law.”

Lord Jesus, I find joy in the Law and commandments and also the Gospel, yet I find a challenge in living it out, due to my idiosyncrasies and behaviour at times. Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to change that with the help of Your Holy Spirit, I may sing a new song to You O Lord, in the assembly of the faithful not to distract or disrupt but in harmony with the rest of the assembly that together we may sing Your praise and give thanks to You and the Father. This must be pretty much the desire of the Psalmists when inspired by the Holy Spirit they wrote and prayed about in the following verses from the Book of Psalms,

Psalm 149:1 – 6 “Alleluia! Sing a new song to Yahweh: his praise in the assembly of the faithful! Israel shall rejoice in its Maker, the children of Zion delight in their king; they shall dance in praise of his name, play to him on tambourines and harp! For Yahweh loves his people, he will crown the humble with salvation. The faithful exult in glory, shout for joy as they worship him, praising God to the heights with their voices, a two-edged sword in their hands,”

Lord Jesus Christ, I find that Your words are a two-edged sword, even the Faith, and the movements of the Holy Spirit at times can be like a two-edged sword; on the one hand You encourage us when we turn towards the Father, on the other hand we get chastised if we seek to live life in sin, and also, although we are sinners You lead us to repentance and You extend Your love and mercy. When we judge others and refuse to forgive others You show us that those who are proud and refuse to forgive will not be able to benefit from Your gift of grace and forgiveness. Truly, no human being can enter heaven or be holy by his/her own efforts, for holiness comes from You alone O Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ, You reveal to us that to find God the Father is only by following You, as You tell me in the Gospel of St. John,

John 14:6 “Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

Lord Jesus Christ, truly You are a mystery. You are God who is always with us, for You are the only Way to God the Father. O Divine Word of God, Wisdom of God, Power of God, Son of God, Lord Jesus Christ, every moment is a grace from You for us sinners to repent and turn to You. Lord, You invite me to see the anxieties within me, and You tell us about Herod in the passage from the Gospel of St. Luke,

Luke 9:7 – 9 “ Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was going on; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see him.”

Lord Jesus, You invite me to see the different causes of anxieties for people who want to see You, some do it out of fear like Herod and the Herodians, others out of jealousy like the Pharisees and the Sadducees and scribes, others out of curiosity like the crowds, and yet others out of love such as those who will take the step to be Your disciples and Apostles.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, interestingly enough, as Pope Francis visits the United States and Cuba, where these two long time foes have reconciled, in the same week, reconciliation is happening between Colombia and Venezuela, brokered by Uruguay and Ecuador.

Lord ,these seem to me that these governments and the peoples are beginning to practice what You teach us, and that is,  to be peacemakers and to be reconciled with each other, and not surprising as these countries have high Christian populations.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, please continue to bless the Church in the Americas and the countries there with a path towards living in unity and peace in Your love.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, please grant a renewal to the Church in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States and the rest of the Western countries, that many will return to You with their hearts and minds, that they may find joy in the Gospel again and begin to live lives filled with purpose.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, please grant perseverance in the work of Evangelisation and New Evangelisation to the Church in Asia, Africa, MiddleEast, Latin America and the former communist countries and former fascist countries, that many will come to find You and have fulfilment in their lives.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, please help us fulfil Your vision of all Christians united as One Church throughout the world, as You intended when You founded the Catholic Church together with the Apostles.

Lord, that there may be Christian unity, and also for the work of evangelisation and new evangelisation, that in the proclamation of the Gospel through missionary activity, education, healthcare and social services, humanity may be renewed in Your love.

Lord Jesus, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, grant Your strength and grace to all our Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, Religious brothers and sisters, as well as all families, ministries and communities, that we will grow in union with You, as Your Body and You as our Head.

Dear Mother Mary, all the Saints and Angels of God please pray with us to the Lord our God, for the needs of the members of the pilgrim Church of Christ on earth and for the holy souls in purgatory and for all humanity.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, we glorify and praise You and give You thanks,

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
