27th Sep 2015 Are you jealous on my account

Anyone who is not against us is for us

Numbers 11:25 – 29 “Yahweh descended in the cloud. He spoke to him and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the spirit came on them they prophesied — but only once. Two men had stayed back in the camp; one was called Eldad and the other Medad. The spirit came down on them; though they had not gone to the Tent, their names were enrolled among the rest. These began to prophesy in the camp. A young man ran to tell Moses this. ‘Look,’ he said, ‘Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.’ Joshua son of Nun, who had served Moses since he was a boy, spoke up and said, ‘My lord Moses, stop them!’ Moses replied, ‘Are you jealous on my account? If only all Yahweh’s people were prophets, and Yahweh had given them his spirit!’”

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, You invite me to understand that we the Catholic Church belong to You, and as Catholic Christians we do not own You. However, You own us, as You are our Head and Shepherd and we are Your sheep, the flock that is led by Your hand. Lord Jesus, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, often I find that jealousy does happen within the Christian communities today, as it did with Your first disciples, and the sin of jealousy and pride still affects humanity today as it did in the times of the Old Patriarchs and Prophets and also in the time of the Apostles. However, You continue to extend Your love and grace to us, that we may be saved by You if we accept Your grace and cooperate with You. Lord Jesus Christ, You remind us often that it is actually for the building up of the Church that each of us is given all our gifts, talents and charisms from You and the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Mark 9:38 – 48 “John said to him, ‘Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, and because he was not one of us we tried to stop him.’ But Jesus said, ‘You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soon afterwards speak evil of me. Anyone who is not against us is for us. ‘If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tell you, he will most certainly not lose his reward. ‘But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown into the sea with a great millstone hung round his neck. And if your hand should be your downfall, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to have two hands and go to hell, into the fire that can never be put out. And if your foot should be your downfall, cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye should be your downfall, tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.”

Lord Jesus Christ, You invite me to remember that there are always good people around in the world, not all of them may be Catholic Christians, or other Christians, for there are many non-believers who live a life that reflects love of God and love of neighbour. And these people also belong to You and the Father and Holy Spirit, just that they may not know that while on earth. You are ready to forgive them their sins. Lord Jesus, You also remind me in the language of Your time, based on the context that everyone needs to love God above all else, and to ensure that none of the aspects of our lives are self-serving that leads us away from God.

James 5:1 – 6 “Well now, you rich! Lament, weep for the miseries that are coming to you. Your wealth is rotting, your clothes are all moth-eaten. All your gold and your silver are corroding away, and the same corrosion will be a witness against you and eat into your body. It is like a fire which you have stored up for the final days. Can you hear crying out against you the wages which you kept back from the labourers mowing your fields? The cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord Sabaoth. On earth you have had a life of comfort and luxury; in the time of slaughter you went on eating to your heart’s content. It was you who condemned the upright and killed them; they offered you no resistance.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, You invite me to understand that wealth is a neutral thing and can be used for generosity and good works such as in the work of evangelisation, education and healthcare; it could also be misused to commit sins.

Lord God of Hosts, You invite me to consider that when inequality exists, due to wealth not being properly distributed and shared to alleviate the needs of those who are marginalised and in poverty, that there is indeed a large social sin which is the result of the personal sins of many who have the ability to aid others, yet do not take the first step of considering that the life of luxury they live are at the expense of those who are poor.

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, please help us always and everywhere to remember the needs of the poor and the sacredness of all human lives, not to take for granted any fellow human being, regardless of gender, social class, race, and nationality or other forms of identity. Because Lord, it is Your desire for all peoples to be saved by You, for You created all peoples in Your image and likeness. And because all peoples have fallen under the slavery of sin, You came to save us, the masterpiece amongst the multitude of Your works in Creation.

Psalm 18(19):8 – 14 “The precepts of Yahweh are honest, joy for the heart; the commandment of Yahweh is pure, light for the eyes. The fear of Yahweh is pure, lasting for ever; the judgements of Yahweh are true, upright, every one, more desirable than gold, even than the finest gold; his words are sweeter than honey, that drips from the comb. Thus your servant is formed by them; observing them brings great reward. But who can detect his own failings? Wash away my hidden faults. And from pride preserve your servant, never let it be my master. So shall I be above reproach, free from grave sin. May the words of my mouth always find favour, and the whispering of my heart, in your presence, Yahweh, my rock, my redeemer.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, please grant us Your help and grace to overcome the sin of pride, which caused the fall of many angels and peoples. Lord, please help us to grow in humility and love, to remember that You, Lord God, have given us all things for the benefit of not just ourselves but for all. Help us to remember the value of the family, which is the basic block of human society, which You gave us, and likewise the vulnerable and the marginalised in society. Lord, help us to give up selfishness and self-seeking desires but rather live in the ways of Your love, which is to love God and to love the brethren, to love our neighbours and to love our enemies.

John 17:17 “Consecrate them in the truth; your word is truth.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit, please help us to be guided by Your words and Your truth.

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, please bless Your Church gathered throughout the world, grant that we may be united in love together with the Bishops, Priests and Deacons and all the Religious and every member of the Church. Lord, grant unity amongst all Christians that we may truly love one another as brethren. Lord, guide all leaders throughout the world, both in the Church and in the Governments of all the Nations and States. Lord, please grant the grace for all humanity to grow in Your love and as humanity continues to seek You in the pursuits of knowledge of the truth and the pursuit for love  the journey may be completed in You, the source and destination of all truths and all love.

Lord, please also grant peace and mercy on all humanity, that there may be an end to violence and discrimination, and that we may share our resources with one another. Lord, please also grant protection for all those who are marginalised and the oppressed and those who live in poverty, and also protect the unborn and the value of family life and the sacredness of human life, for all life comes from You. Lord, also grant eternal rest to all souls in purgatory that they may enter the company of the Saints and Angels in Your kingdom.

Dear Mother Mary, all the Saints and Angels of God, please pray for us to the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father and Holy Spirit.

Abba Father, Almighty God, in obedience to the teachings of Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ we pray,

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
