Divine faithful love versus humanity’s selfish pride
Zechariah 8:1 – 8 “The word of Yahweh Sabaoth came as follows: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I have been burning with jealousy for Zion, with furious jealousy for her sake. Yahweh says this: I am coming back to Zion and shall live in the heart of Jerusalem. Jerusalem will be called Faithful City and the mountain of Yahweh Sabaoth, the Holy Mountain. Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Aged men and women once again will sit in the squares of Jerusalem, each with a stick to lean on because of their great age. And the squares of the city will be full of boys and girls playing there. Yahweh Sabaoth says this: If this seems a miracle to the remnant of this people (in those days), will it seem one to me? declares Yahweh. Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Look, I shall rescue my people from the countries of the east and from the countries of the west. I shall bring them back to live in the heart of Jerusalem, and they will be my people and I shall be their God, faithful and just.”
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, today You invite me to see the difference between the jealous love You have for Your people against the selfishness of all humanity and in particular also of myself.
Lord God of Hosts, You show me that Your love for the Jewish people in ancient times has been fulfilled by the salvation You won for us upon the cross, and that You have gathered the first Israel formed by the beloved Jewish people back to their homeland over the course of history both in the Scriptures and in recent history, yet this prophecy in the book of Zechariah also refers to the new Israel and the new Jerusalem, the Christian people in the Catholic Church, which is the Church established by You in the Messianic age.
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, it is true that this Church You founded is upon the foundations of the Apostles and the Prophets with You as the cornerstone to the glory of Your Name and the glory of God the Father and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 101(102):15 – 22 “Then will the nations revere the name of Yahweh, and all the kings of the earth your glory; when Yahweh builds Zion anew, he will be seen in his glory; he will turn to hear the prayer of the destitute, and will not treat their prayer with scorn. This shall be put on record for a future generation, and a people yet to be born shall praise God: Yahweh has leaned down from the heights of his sanctuary, has looked down from heaven to earth, to listen to the sighing of the captive, and set free those condemned to death, to proclaim the name of Yahweh in Zion, his praise in Jerusalem; nations will gather together, and kingdoms to worship Yahweh.”
Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, truly this prayer in the Book of Psalms has been fulfilled, for now the new Zion You founded is in every nation under the earth, and the peoples of the nations who have been baptised in the Name of Jesus Christ into the Catholic Church now worship and praise You in spirit and in truth. Now the promises made to Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah and Rachel has been fulfilled, that all nations shall be blest because of Your promise to Abraham, that Christ would come to save us as the One born of a Virgin into the household of Abraham’s royal descendant King David, as was revealed gradually through the various Prophets of old.
Lord Jesus Christ, truly You have established the New Israel and the New Zion and the New Jerusalem, bringing all Jews and all the peoples of the Nations the Salvation from God the Father and giving us the Holy Spirit, so that we can worship You in Spirit and in Truth. Just as the first Israel was formed from the Twelve tribes who descended from the Twelve sons of the Jacob You love, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph (father of Ephraim and Manasseh) and Benjamin; Lord You chose Twelve Apostles also, St. Peter, St. James, St. John, St. Andrew, St. Philip, St. Bartholomew, St. Matthew, St. Thomas, St. Simon, St. Jude, St. James and St. Matthias to be the first Twelve Bishops and Priests in the Church, and You gave them other fellow Apostles to assist them like St. Paul and St. Barnabas, as well as the first seven Deacons including St. Stephen the first martyr.
Lord, since the earliest times You have already commissioned and ordained men to be Bishops, Priests and Deacons to minister and pastor Your flock, and You chose St. Peter to be the first amongst the Apostles, to serve as Your vicar on earth, and You gave those Apostles and Bishops the power to lay hands on other men to make them Priests and Deacons through the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord, You established the Clergy, the order of Bishops, the order of Priests and the order of Deacons to continue the ministry of Your Word and the breaking of the bread and the ministry of grace and mercy.
John 14:23 “Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make a home in him.”
Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, please grant that there will be more men and boys willing to answer Your call to be Deacons and Priests through the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, also grant an increase in the religious vocations; open the hearts of many men and women, boys and girls to join the religious communities and missionaries that the work of evangelisation may be fruitful throughout the Church and the world in both the religious and clergy.
Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, also grant that the value of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony may be upheld by the lives of married couples and young couples preparing for marriage, that they will be blessed with children and bring them up lovingly in the Faith and that the value of the human family and the domestic church will be upheld. May all married couples and families be centred around You, O Lord God of Hosts.
Mark 10:45 “For the Son of man himself came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’”
Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, just as all secondary vocations are an extension of the primary vocation of all humanity which is to love God and to love all humanity and creation, living a life of holiness in response to Your love, Lord please grant us Your aid and protection against the enemies of our salvation, may Your Blessed Saints and Holy Angels protect and watch over Your Church and all humanity from the wicked snares of the accuser and the fallen angels and demons.
Lord God of Hosts, protect us Your unworthy servants and help us to overcome the sins that have led us away from You, for it is through our own disordered desires that we chose time and time again to sin against You and against one another, not caring for each other, and not loving each other and destroying the environment and the plants and animals You have created to aid us.
Lord God of Hosts, please forgive us for these offences against Your gifts of Creation and Salvation, and most of all for the abuse of the gift of Your grace and free will.
Lord God of Hosts, please forgive us for the times we do not respect the sacredness of life which comes from You and we do not respect the importance of family life and community life which You established and also for the times when we abuse our intellect, our sexuality, our talents and gifts due to pride, selfishness, jealousy, anger, and unforgiveness.
Luke 9:46 – 50 “An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest. Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set by his side and then he said to them, ‘Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and anyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is the greatest.’ John spoke up. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he is not with us we tried to stop him.’ But Jesus said to him, ‘You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.’”
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, You invite me to realise how dangerous pride, jealousy, anger and unforgiveness can be, as it is repeated on a large scale in the Conflicts between Nations and criminal violence within cities, and till today this is very prevalent in Africa, the Middle-East, Asia-Pacific, the Americas and Europe. Unforgiveness and selfishness and pride have brought nations to war countless times and made peoples hate each other and these conflicts last for so many generations because there is no reconciliation and forgiveness. And also many tribes and people of different ethnic groups or families constantly fight each other, as a vendetta due to some dispute that broke out many generations ago.
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit help us to learn to forgive, to accept that there we are all hurt and wounded, and that there are other ways to express our anger and to surrender it to You, and to come to terms that both sides have a part to play in the ongoing conflicts and disputes, and to slowly allow You to heal our hearts and minds and memories, that we may begin to forgive ourselves and others, then only can we love and forgive each other as You guide us to.
Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, please grant peace and unity to Your Church spread throughout the world, may we be united with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Blessed Apostles and Saints and the Holy Angels of God, together with Pope Francis and all our Bishops, Priests and Deacons and all the Religious Communities and all the Dioceses, Parishes and Families throughout the world. Lord ,please grant unity amongst all Christians. Lord, please also grant peace and mercy upon all humanity, guide all government leaders to seek ways to cooperate for peace and development that includes the weak and the marginalised and the oppressed and protect the dignity of all human life and the dignity of the family and marriage. Lord, please also grant pardon for all humanity, as we are all sinners, who ought to repent of our sins and be grateful to You for Your love and mercy, grant us the grace to repent of our sins and to live a life of holiness. Lord, also grant that all the souls in purgatory may find rest in Your presence together with the company of Your Saints and holy Angels.
Dear Mother Mary, all the Saints and Angels of God, please pray for us.
Dear Abba Father God, we offer to You the prayer Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ taught us
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
