The kindly hand of my God was over me

Nehemiah 2:1 – 8 “ In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, since I was in charge of the wine, I took the wine and offered it to the king. Now, he had never seen me looking depressed before. So the king said to me, ‘Why are you looking depressed? You are not sick! This must be a sadness of the heart.’ Thoroughly alarmed by this, I said to the king, ‘May the king live for ever! How can I not look depressed when the city where the tombs of my ancestors are lies in ruins and its gates have been burnt down?’ The king then said to me, ‘What would you like me to do?’ Praying to the God of heaven, I said to the king, ‘If the king approves and your servant enjoys your favour, send me to Judah, to the city of the tombs of my ancestors, so that I can rebuild it.’ The king with the queen sitting beside him said, ‘How long will your journey take, and when will you come back?’ Once I had given him a definite time, the king approved my mission. I then said to the king, ‘If the king approves, may I be given orders for the governors of Transeuphrates to let me pass through on my way to Judah? Also an order for Asaph, keeper of the king’s forest, to supply me with timber for the beams of the gates of the citadel of the Temple, for the city walls and for the house which I am to occupy?’ These the king granted me because the kindly hand of my God was over me.”

Dearest beloved Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, You see in me the sadness and joys of my heart. O Lord, You have been with me through the ups and downs of life, and I often think of the beauty of Your kingdom, since Creation is full of the beauty of Your works, and You truly must be much more beautiful and amazing than all Your works, for You are the Lord God of Hosts, Creator of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible and You are the King of kings and Lord of lords, and the King of Angels and King of Saints. Lord, I remember constantly Your presence with us through the Church and in particular those You have called to be Bishops, Priests, Deacons and Religious brothers and sisters, as well as the community of Faith gathered everywhere to hear the Word and to break the Bread.

Beloved Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, I find that I seek to be closer to You everyday and desire to live more fully for You, yet the temptation to sin and also the attractions of worldly life still also affect my relationship with You. However, each time I depend on Your grace more than on my own strength and efforts, I find that it is easier to carry the cross and follow You, so may I always remember Your new Jerusalem and new Israel, Your Church and kingdom.

Psalm 136(137):1 – 6 “By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept at the memory of Zion. On the poplars there we had hung up our harps. For there our gaolers had asked us to sing them a song, our captors to make merry, ‘Sing us one of the songs of Zion.’ How could we sing a song of Yahweh on alien soil? If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither! May my tongue remain stuck to my palate if I do not keep you in mind, if I do not count Jerusalem the greatest of my joys.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, thank You for helping me remember constantly and always come back to You each time I fail. Thank You Lord for the grace to enjoy the Scriptures and to spend time with the Word frequently and also to partake often in the Sacraments. Lord, truly this is a grace from You.

Psalm 118(119):105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, thank You for giving to us Your Church the Sacred Scriptures, the Apostolic Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church to be the joint pillars of the Faith built upon the Apostles and the Prophets as the foundation with You as the cornerstone and the Head of the Church.

Philippians 3:7 – 11 “But what were once my assets I now through Christ Jesus count as losses. Yes, I will go further: because of the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, I count everything else as loss. For him I have accepted the loss of all other things, and look on them all as filth if only I can gain Christ and be given a place in him, with the uprightness I have gained not from the Law, but through faith in Christ, an uprightness from God, based on faith, that I may come to know him and the power of his resurrection, and partake of his sufferings by being moulded to the pattern of his death, striving towards the goal of resurrection from the dead.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God, and Holy Spirit, the beauty of the Faith and the Salvation You give us is that it fulfils all that You have spoken through the Law You handed on through Moses and what You have shown in signs through Prophets like Elijah and Elisha and also spoken through the Prophets like Samuel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Daniel and Ezekiel and King David. Abba, Father God, truly Your promises to Abraham were fulfilled when Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ came to save all humanity by choosing to be born of the Virgin Mary in the household of Your servant David, of the tribe of Judah the son of Jacob, son of Isaac and son of Abraham.

Luke 9:57 – 62 “As they travelled along they met a man on the road who said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus answered, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.’ Another to whom he said, ‘Follow me,’ replied, ‘Let me go and bury my father first.’ But he answered, ‘Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of the kingdom of God.’ Another said, ‘I will follow you, sir, but first let me go and say good-bye to my people at home.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.’”

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, grant me the grace to follow You always and everywhere, as Your Saints and Prophets have done; so, help me remain faithful to You.

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, please grant unity amongst all Christians everywhere and gather us into Your Church spread throughout the world. May we be united with Pope Francis and all Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Religious and all Dioceses throughout the world.  Lord, bless our work of Evangelisation and New Evangelisation.

Lord, grant unity to the all Christians everywhere, and bless the work of ecumenism that we may be the one flock under You our Good Shepherd. Lord, bless also the first children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the people of Israel and all Jews everywhere, that they may remain faithful to the Covenant and be led to fullness of Faith and Love in You and come to accept Your grace. Lord, bless also all the Nations and Peoples and the rulers and Governments of the Nations and Peoples, that they may work together with the Church in building the kingdom of God on earth, through mutual cooperation in providing education and healthcare, caring for the sick, the poor, the lonely, the oppressed, the migrants and the refugees, and protecting the environment.

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, please help all humanity against sin and the wiles of the enemies of our salvation. Lord Jesus Christ, help us to be drawn closer to You and to renounce our sins and follow You more closely. Draw us closer to Your cross and to the power of Your death and Resurrection.

Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit, please grant eternal rest to all the souls in purgatory.

Dear Mother Mary, all the Saints and holy Angels of God, please pray for us. Amen.

Abba Father, Almighty God, we offer up to You the prayer our Saviour Your Son Jesus Christ taught us –

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
