Ash Wednesday: Choices to Remember

A day of fasting and abstinence

fasting made easier

by prayer and self-control

food seems to be unimportant

have I lost my appetite?

only momentary

sat at the front row in church

head bowed

flood of emotions

churning in my mind

remorse, guilt, pain

blessed to be the first to receive the ashes

a mark

a reminder to seek repentance and forgiveness

during the 40 days of Lent

to do something small

something good

acts of mercy unto others

finding that inner room

the quiet

for death will come for life

like flowers

hibiscus in bloom today

gone tomorrow

we too

will return to dust

the choice

marked on our foreheads

a calling to remember

that we are truly sorry

for our sins

in reconciling with God

harden not our hearts

God Bless!
